Haruka asks Sawaki when he stopped being able to see microbes, who realizes that it must have been around the time of Kei's kiss. He can't say it…but it doesn't matter. Just then, Oikawa bursts in the room with the knowledge of trap-Kei, screaming at Sawaki for kissing another guy.

>:u
She is quickly collared by Haruka, who kisses her, much to the boys' surprise.

I don't get the thing with lesb- whatever, enjoy the cap.
Haruka, in a display of her superb people skills, says that without his ability, Sawaki is just a midget. Misato and Takuma do some good for once, quickly coming to Sawaki's defense. To get him away from Haruka, they take him and (a now fainted) Oikawa to go eat. Sawaki declines, however, and heads home.
Stopping by the shop, Sawaki sits down with Kei for a pep talk. Sawaki is less worried about his ability being gone - he's lost it before and gotten it back. Based on Haruka's reaction, he's afraid he'll be alienated from everyone at the lab. Kei tells him that he should be himself, since 'others will hate you if they know you are trying too hard not to be hated'. Talk about circular logic.

Circular logic is circular
With Sawaki's confidence sufficiently reinstated, the two touch on why Kei is dressing like a girl. Kei responds that he chose to be like this, possibly hinting transsexuality. He also says it might be due to something in his past.

I'm pretty sure the fansubbers failed to articulate this sufficiently.
The old shopowner then drops by, and asks Sawaki if he's still loving the microbes. Sawaki notices that he can't see a single microbe on the old shopowner.
Misato, Takuma, Oikawa, and Aoi have a drink at Aya's bar. Misato and Takuma ask Aya what she would do if someone she knew lost their only redeeming trait. Oikawa interrupts and says it's 'game over' for that person, but Aya says that if she liked the person enough she'd try to find another positive trait about the person.

Harsh.
Alone in his apartment, Sawaki asks the microbes the write his name on a piece of bread. Nothing happens, and a depressed Sawaki goes to bed.
Morning rolls around, and Sawaki sees that the slice of bread he left out now says 'Sawaki' on it.

More confidence boost.
At the lab, Haruka makes an off-hand comment about hoping Sawaki will straighten up after her taunt. Professor Itsuki brings her on a guilt trip by musing if Sawaki will even come back. He proceeds to ask her why she thinks Sawaki's grandfather left him in Professor Itsuki's care. She thinks its because of Sawaki's ability, but Itsuki tells her that Sawaki's grandfather wanted him to live his own life, despite his father wanting him to take over the yeast business. Haruka becomes aggravated and begins yelling, only to be stopped by Itsuki's finger, pushed back into her seat. He says that they need to give Sawaki time, and that they will always welcome him should he wish to stay.

Professor Itsukiowned.
Later that day, Haruka is the only person around when Sawaki appears. He stutters out that he wants to stay, that he's realized his interest in microbes. Haruka unexpectedly hugs him, and at that moment his ability returns.

Yay! I can see microbes again!
A happy ending shows Sawaki, Professor Itsuki, Haruka, Aoi, Misato, Takuma, and Oikawa celebrating the opening of their new fermentation cellar. It appears Kei will be coming back to the university soon, and all is well.

Our resident drunkard in action.
Thoughts:
My first completed series! So…Moyashimon was an interesting ride, although I do feel that they ended it right when it was about to get interesting. (Also excuse the 'interesting ride' comment, I bet I'll end up using that phrase for every series I complete.) When they stopped featuring the microbes as much to parallel Sawaki's gradual loss of ability, I began to lose interest. The last few episodes made up for it all though, as they brought back the microbes as well as ignited my interest in the characters themselves. I would not be opposed to a second season of Moyashimon, and not only because of trap-Kei. ;D
