A lot of the beginning really went over my head, but I'll give this a shot. Lawrence's discussion with Marle highlights a few things. One, it is clear that Medioh is conniving with the Church, since they know of Horo's identity. Second, the only way to stall the Church is to try and control Throeni kingdom's assets, since the Throeni royal family is in some sort of financial crisis. (Which also explains the decreasing value of its currency.) Lastly, Marle commits to helping Lawrence rescue Horo, if she is turned into the Church, it would hurt Milone. After rescuing Horo, Lawrence will have to be on the run until Milone completes the deal.
Fortunately, Milone has many connections with the underground, they are admittedly a rather powerful organization. (Less so than the Church, though.) The rescue operation goes off smoothly, even if Lawrence himself didn't do much.

Yeah, Medioh's pretty laem

I-I-INQUISITION
Horo displays her initial displeasure, because she had expected Lawrence to come in guns blazing to rescue her. After she calms down, she tells Lawrence that she saw a familiar face while in captivity - none other than Chloe. In the flashback, Horo's relief dissolves as Chloe reveals that she is the one who tipped the Church, after hearing of Horo from Zeiren. Via Chloe, all the help Horo has given the villagers is snubbed in her face once again, and remembering it makes Horo cry.

Well, he did…kinda.

So ungrateful.
Lawrence comforts her, saying that they are partner merchants. As they reach the next leg of their escape, it is shown that the Church is as crafty as Marle described it. Chloe, along with some church officials, have already started searching the sewers.
Thoughts:
Things are looking up for Lawrence and Horo, but judging by the last scene who knows how long that will last. I keep expecting the Marle fellow to backstab Lawrence, but upon reflection I doubt he will, since he's shown as a pretty good guy. As for Chloe, her approval rating's going way downhill.
