Aihara Kotoko is a girl who has a crush on a guy named Irie Naoki. She decides to write a love letter to Naoki, and presents it to him the next day. However, she's instantly rejected, Naoki doesn't even deign to accept her letter.
Kotoko fell for Naoki two years ago during the opening ceremony. The top student was going to give a speech, and Kotoko thought he'd be short and nerdy, but it turned out to be Naoki. She'd been lovestruck ever since. Naoki was placed into the top Class A, but Kotoko is in Class F. Despite her efforts at studying, Kotoko has been unable to raise her rank.
News of Kotoko's failure travels fast, rubbing salt in the wound of being rejected. While her friends Jinko and Satomi try to comfort her, another friend, Kinnosuke, bursts in the door. Kinnosuke's appearance is that of a delinquent, but he's clearly fallen for Kotoko. He says that Naoki cannot be forgiven, and that the latter's rejection of Kotoko is like an open challenge to him.
Thinking it through, Kotoko admits to herself that it was rather rude for Naoki to not even accept her letter. Though heartbroken, she tells herself she'll give up on him.
On the way home, Irie-kun passes by Kotoko's group. He ignores Kotoko, which riles up Kinnosuke. As Kinnosuke confronts Naoki, the latter says, 'I hate stupid girls.'
That night, Kotoko's friends come to visit her, who lives alone with her father. While they're drinking and being merry, however, Naoki's name comes up. This incites an already drunk Kinnosuke, who begins punching the wall. At that moment, a minor earthquake occurs. As the house collapses, Kotoko and friends rush to safety, but her father stayed behind to grab mom's urn. Fortunately, her father is okay.
The next day brings more unwanted attention to Kotoko, since it was a level 2 quake and only her house collapsed. To make matters worse, an unknown person sneaks photographs of her.
Kinnosuke has stationed himself at the school's entrance, holding a donation drive for Kotoko. She tells him to stop, when Naoki comes along. Kinnosuke begins ranting at Naoki again, but Naoki takes out some money and asks if it'll be fine as long as he donates. Kotoko snaps, and after she slaps his hand away yells that she wouldn't even want [a jerk like] him to take care of her.
A friend of Kotoko's father has offered them lodging for the time being. The family's surname, however, is Irie…
Kotoko thinks it must be a coincidence, but entering the house, she finds none other than Naoki.
It turns out the paparazzi from earlier was Naoki's mother. Shortly after, Naoki's little brother Yuuki is introduced. Yuuki asks Kotoko for help on his elementary school homework, but Kotoko gets it all wrong. Calling her stupid, Yuuki runs upstairs.
Naoki's mother introduces Kotoko to her temporary room, decorated lovingly. However, Naoki informs Kotoko that it used to be Yuuki's room, which explains Yuuki's behavior earlier. Additionally, Yuuki is now in Naoki's room, and it's cramped.
Thoughts:
Hey, I'm really liking this series. ^^ People were saying, 'It's just like Bokura Ga Ita', and frankly I couldn't stand that series. However; Kotoko having to stay at her crush's house, a boy who doesn't like her back and is subsequently a jerk to her, makes for a very interesting situation. xD
Not to mention that Yuuki hates her as well, and Naoki's mother has always wanted a daughter. Naoki's mother will probably pamper Kotoko to an extreme, which won't help her relationship with Naoki and Yuuki at all. Off to a good start, and I'll probably keep up on this. (:
Also, the artwork is just fine, I don't know what the problem is.
