Rahzel, her father Seratildo, and Hi-tan celebrate Rahzel's 15th birthday. Alzeid is present, but despite an enormous amount of context clues, is ignorant of the fact. Being 'left out' irritates him quite a bit. New twist thrown in, Hi-tan is Seratildo's brother. Which makes all of Hi-tan's advances on Rahzel …very inappropriate.
Moving along, Rahzel beings Alzeid and Hi-tan to the forest which she's consistently been having flashbacks of. Drawing a circle in the dirt around her, she recounts when her father left her there to die. Turns out that Seratildo is not Rahzel's biological father, but someone who passed by the forest and took Rahzel into his care. Rahzel tells them her real name is Lazensha Rose. She goes on to say that her journey with them ends, since Seratildo is pretty hellbent on taking her back, and she can't go against her parent.
The next day, Alzeid is nowhere to be seen. Rahzel, Hi-tan, and Seratildo go ahead and head for the train station. Alzied, meanwhile, is attempting to buy a present for Rahzel. He's unable to decide, so when the next customer walks in asking for a present, he grabs the man by the shirt and asks what kind of person it's for. The man responds that it's for a daughter he abandoned long ago, who should be 15 today. (HMM…) He also says that she was able to use magic, but Alzeid isn't paying attention anymore. (Sigh…) After the man leaves, Alzeid does as well, without buying a present at all.
As the man rides away in a carriage, he has a flashback to when he was still with his wife and daughter. His wife had gone insane, and his daughter had killed her. Thus, he left his daughter in the forest. Later regretting the action, he came back for her, but she was gone. He'd always hoped to meet his daughter Lazensha once more.
Saying goodbye to Baroqueheat, Rahzel boards the train. Shortly after, Alzeid comes barrelling past Hi-tan, and the both give chase to the train on foot. (What.) Catching a glimpse of them through the window, Rahzel heads to the back of the train. She open the door to hear Alzeid yell that they won't be nakama anymore, and she leaps off the train.
After Alzeid catches Rahzel, she begins yelling at him. She insists that nakama are still nakama, even when they're seperated. Alzeid asks how can she say that while crying like she is. As Seratildo comes walking up behind (What, he jumped too?), Rahzel caves in to peer pressure and decides to go adventuring with Alzeid and Hi-tan again.
Meanwhile, Lazensha's daddy is cornered by the unknown character that's been snooping around the entire episode. The unknown fellow pulls out a glowy sword, says, 'Goodnight, Fabien Rose', and (presumably) kills him. The series ends with a look at the killer's face, who is obviously batshit insane.
Thoughts:
So Hatenkou Yugi ends. I must say, the ending was going rather decently…until the unknown killer part. I really could have gone for some 'happily ever after adventuring' conclusion. Sigh. Not to mention Rahzel's real dad gets killed before she can meet him. And the unknown killer seems to know a lot about Rahzel. So much for character development, let's end the series.
As for those of you speculating that Rahzel was too young for Hi-tan and Alzeid… boy, were you right. I would have at least guessed she was 17, but 15… gosh.
Can't say I'd be too interested in a sequel. At the very least, I wouldn't blog it.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who was taken back by her age. Or that she was considered an adult at that age. Rest of it was pretty good and maybe with that ending we get a second season which would be nice.

OMG, it ended?! LOL, I think she’s too young still~

Wtf 10 episodes? Something tells me someone’s budget got chopped during production…not that I was keeping up with the series x:

@ Greg: I agree, 15 is a bit young for ‘adulthood’. I know in many countries it’s earlier than in the US, but I think the lowest it goes is 16.
@ blissmo: Hahha, me too. xD
@ Hinano: Well honestly I think the anime was pretty bad…maybe the manga was better. =x

I don’t think it is so weird that 15 was considered “adulthood.” it’s only weird in the context of modern day society because we have the luxury of pushing back that milestone. To put an arbitrary age on adulthood is perhaps the strangest thing all together. It’s not as if a switch exists inside a person that flips from being a child to being an adult at an exact period of time. Some of us never make the transition, we’re just legally obligated against or for certain choices.
As for the series, it wasn’t that terribly interesting to begin with. Just something to watch! You know, while you’re waiting for the other shows you care about to come out.

@ K: Well, if you read my entry more closely you’ll see that I said Rahzel seemed a bit young for Hi-tan or Alzeid (as a love interest) since they’re both 30ish or older.
@ mariah: Er, what’s with the comment spam? o_o; Also, the author of this post is me, not webb.

a friend told me that hatenkou yugi was made up of 16 episodes and that she’d seen all of them, she also said the manga series is still going on and not yet completed.
I havent been able to ask her about this just yet, but the next time I see her I’ll aske her about it and post her answer on here.
Now to comment on Rahzel’s age, i was also surprised by how young she is, but when you think about it Alzeid and Hi-Tan aren’t much older, early twenties at the most

Yes, actually Alzeid is in the anime considered to be 24, but manga wise people speculate that he is actually more like 19 or 20….though Hi-tan is late 20’s I believe… ^-^ I just know that he older than Alzeid. I don’t mind the age difference at all, mostly because they seem to fit together very well…in my opinion at least. I really loved this anime and I hope the manga is even better! It’s unfortunate people didn’t get interested in this to much, but I think because it was so short and not continued that people were not drawn to it as much :P Just saying!
toodles!

lol. wow…the anime is patheticly funny. the manga is so much better…lol…actually from he manga, you know that razhel is 14/15 so no suprise there. And alzeid and baroque heat doesnt look old at all….you’d have to guess eariy twenties. mid twenties at the oldest….you have to wonder who old is razhel (adoptive) dad….and WTH does she not know she has a uncle…acctually…wth is he making moves on her if he’s her uncle?!! so wierd..
anyway! really great funny posts…i found them to be ery informative and funny. lol..
