Arriving at school, Hikari receives the same fanfare as yesterday. She's greeted by Akira, and they go see the rankings together. All the Special A members have stayed the same rank, and they're re-introduced. Of course, Kei is still number 1, and he doesn't waste any time in rubbing number 2 in Hikari's face.
Back in their opulent arboretum, the Special A class discusses the return of the student council president, Takei Hajime, who apparently was on leave due to his weak body. They're interrupted by (speak of the devil) Takei. He's the top of Class A (Rank 8?), and along with some student council members they challenge the Special A class. Takei is disgruntled because earlier that morning he was knocked aside by Akira, then run over by Special A's fans. Apparently a student can take a Special A member's place if he/she beats the Special A member in a formal contest.
Naturally, Hikari instantly accepts, though Kei isn't too happy. The challenge is set to be a pro-wrestling match, with the Fankyu Brothers (apparently pro-wrestlers) representing the student council, and Hikari and Kei representing Special A.
As the student council spy Hikari and Kei almost destroy the gym with their sparring, they realize that will need to cheat to win. Hikari is beset by several obstacles. First, a flower pot is dropped from up high, then she slips on some grease and sharpened bamboo shoots almost impale her. Thanks to Hikari's training though, she never was really in danger, and shrugs it off.
Meanwhile, Kei finishes beating up some thugs sent to rough him up, and finds out that the student council is targeting them both. Worried, he runs to find Hikari, who is of course, perfectly fine. Kei is rattled, though, and tells Hikari to back out, that she'll be a burden to him.
Hikari doesn't warm to that too well, since she interprets it as Kei saying that she'll never be able to beat him. When she meets him again later, she insists on participating.
The day of the wrestling match comes, with Kei still wanting Hikari to be his 'back-up'. He intends to win the tag match without tagging himself out. A knock is heard on the door, and one of the student council lackeys deliver a 'bouquet'.
As the match starts, Hikari and Kei appear handcuffed together. Everyone just assumes they are handicapping themselves. Match begins, but Hikari and Kei are uncoordinated. They continue to argue, until finally Kei picks Hikari up and sets her outside the ring. However, he's still handcuffed to her, so since he's unable to move the Fankyu Brothers proceed to stomp on him. Hikari becomes so frustrated that she tells Kei never to exclude her from a contest or competition, since it'll make her sad.
Takei taunts Hikari for being a burden to Kei, which is the straw-breaker. Kei breaks the handcuffs, then he and Hikari proceed to score an overwhelming victory over the Fankyu Brothers.
In the midst of victory, Hikari points her finger at Kei and tells him to never stop being number 1 until she beats him. Ever the good sport, she also thanks Takei for the contest.
Leaving the stadium, Kei reminds Hikari of the contest she challenged him to earlier, who could pull off more moves during the match. He'd won, 16-15. As per agreed, Hikari needs to do something that Kei says. What could it be…?
Thoughts:
You know, interesting how all the members of the Special A (and, in fact, most of the school) are from prestigious families, whereas Hikari's dad is a carpenter. Just shows how much effort she's putting in to be there.
Anyway.
This episode focused more on the importance of teamwork than anything, as there wasn't that much competing going on. It's made even more clear that Hikari enjoys competition immensely, though, when she immediately accepts Takei's challenge.
Speaking of Takei, I think he may be falling for Hikari…
