Per the contest Hikari lost in the previous episode, she needs to do something that Kei asks. He requests that she make him a bento.
The next day, Kei prepares to starve himself, while Hikari attempts to make a bento. However, Hikari's mother won't let her use the kitchen, because her inhumane strength usually ends up destroying the entire kitchen, and her father has to repair it.
At school, Hikari has no choice but to ask Akira to use Special A's kitchen. Meanwhile, the rest of the Special A are quite disturbed as to Kei's behavior, since he's being overly happy and nice. They also receive a visit from Kakei, and he's used hereon out as a comic relief character.
Hikari's superhuman strength is so unconscious that she cannot even wash rice. She finally stops punching holes through metal pots, but now destroys the rice completely so that it's not even solid anymore. Hearing that Hikari is making a bento, comic relief Kakei begins to delude himself that it's for him.
The rice is finally finished steaming, but it comes out in a block, since Hikari had completely pulverized it. Nevertheless, she brings it out to Kei. Revealing her rice ball in front of the Special A class, it appears to have the physical properties of a cannonball, even causing an impact crater when Hikari drops it. Kei says he'll eat it, but not before Hikari grabs it, crunches (yes, crunches) it down, and runs off to make another.
Kei attempts to dissuade Hikari from pushing herself too hard… yeah, right. Some light is shed on Kei's bento request, since he was small he'd felt left out when all the other children had bentos, whereas he had a butler serve him first-class food. Meanwhile, Hikari decides that she needs to find tougher rice. (As opposed to using less force.)
Of course by now, Kei is in dire hunger, but he holds on for Hikari's sake. Akira arrives at the kitchen to hear an explosion, and offers to help Hikari learn how to wash rice. She refuses, but Tadashi comes in and gives her a pep-talk. Hikari then decides to accept Akira's help.
After a while, Hikari comes out with the bento. To everyone's surprise, they actually look like rice balls this time. However, just as Kei is about to enjoy them, Kakei jumps in, steals one, and takes a bite. Kakei says that it's terrible, but Kei scares him off. Hikari is about to run off again but Kei accepts the rice balls and eats them, even saying that they're delicious. The rest of the Special A suspects that it's due to his extreme hunger, that every tastes good.
As Kei leaves to exact his revenge on Kakei, Hikari promises to make rice balls for all the Special A students next time, much to their dismay.
Thoughts:
Well, I can see what some people are saying about their disappointment in Special A. There seems to be a lot of mis-timed comedic scenes.
In any case, it was pretty interesting that Hikari could not even overcome preparing the food, much less making it tasty. Not too much story development going on in this episode, though.

I also didn’t find this episode to be particularly noteworthy. I thought it was slightly more entertaining than the last one but overall…meh.

I wasn’t all hit up about it either. The lunch thing gets kind of old. But it’s still works nonetheless. Hoping this isn’t going down the road of R+V.

@ Caitlin: Really? I really can’t come to terms with episode 2 or 3 compared to 1.
@ Web: R+V was pure fanservice, haha.
