Hiking to the task force training center, Iku is already at odds with her co-trainee, Tezuka Hikaru. Both were inducted into the Library Task Force at the same time. Tezuka is almost the complete polar opposite of Iku, though, he's a veritable 'Mr. Perfect'. Iku's image of incapability is further cemented in Tezuka's mind when she cannot even describe the Hino Nightmare - when the Hino City Library was raided by the Media Cleansing Committee and library forces suffered 12 casualties. During training, though, Iku notices that Tezuka seems to have a minor fear of heights.
Next, the task force treks into the forest for wilderness survival. The group is warned about bears, which is bad news for Iku - she's terrified of them. That night, none other than a bear sneaks into Iku's tent. She wakes up, startled, then lands a roundhouse in the bear's face. It's later revealed that the bear was actually one of Iku's sempais in a costume. A sort of razing, so to speak, for task force trainees. Komaki remarks to Dojo that Iku is remarkably similar to him during his novice days, and calls both of them 'Bear Slayers'.
Iku's next obstacle is categorizing and shelving books. She's hideous at it, drawing Tenzuka's irritation. He's pretty harsh to her, even causing her to cry. However, this motivates Iku to work harder and she enlists Asako's help in tutoring her. Long nights and fervent studying takes its toll on Iku's face, but she steadily improves.
Meanwhile, Asako notices something odd about the 15 missing books. 15 is too many, and the Committee for Deliberation of Questionable Books is involved. Suddenly, the library alarm goes off, announcing that force from the Media Cleansing Committee have surrounded the building. Asako notices soldiers going upstairs, which is odd because normally they'd want to go to the book vault, which is in the basement. She figures out that they're going after the 15 books in the Chairman's office, and quickly reports it to the task force.
Hearing Asako's voice, Iku immediately changes her course for the Chairman's office, dragging Tezuka along with her. The two catch up to the government soldiers, exchanging fire along the way. On the roof, Tezuka injures the soldier with the book bag, but he throws the bag over the edge. Iku asks Tezuka to cover for her while she rappels down to grab the books, taking his fear of heights into consideration. She successfully gets the bag and into cover, but didn't think her clever plan all the way through. Just as she prepares to break cover and run, the other members of the task force dispatch the government soldiers. Dojo is quick to arrive and scold her. She realizes that she made him worried though, and apologizes.
Thanks to Iku and Tezuka, no books were lost. Tezuka still looks pretty grim, though, so Iku asks him if he still has something against her. Much to her surprise, he asks her out instead.
Thoughts:
Well, we sure got our action this time around. I still don't get why they say it's an all-out-conflict, if it really were such thing's would be a lot more hectic. I also still don't get how the local government is able to resist the central government. Eh, oh well.
Iku is definitely nabbing her share of guys. Dojo obviously cares for her, and now Tezuka asks her out. =o Though, I'm a bit suspicious of his intentions.
