Iku and Commander Inamine are taken as hostages by the Bakushuukai, a group that supports the Media Cleansing Committee. Under the threat that the Bakushuukai will blow up the funeral procession, Inamine and Iku go along quietly.
Of course, Genda and the others soon find out the bomb threat is a hoax. The problem of rescuing Iku and Inamine still exists, though. Genda calls in the help of Hiraga from the Police Department, as well as his journalist friend Maki. Shortly after, the librarians receive the customary phone call in which the offending party states their demands. The Bakushuukai wants the Kanto library to burn all censored material they took from the library museum. They allow Iku to get on the phone to show the hostage's safety.
Iku uses this chance to… say that Ayase should cancel their reservation to Tranzar, which she claims is a high-class and expensive restaurant. Everyone is confused, but Shibasaki says that Iku is clever - Tranzar is just a casual cafe in Tachikawa, and they'd had no plans to go there soon. Genda jumps on this information, and has Hiraga look into the area. Meanwhile, as backup, the librarians task the Logistical Support Team to make copies of all the demanded material. Dojo blames himself for putting Iku into that situation.
Inamine has Iku help remove his prosthetic leg, which unbeknownst to their captors (and Iku), begins transmitting a signal which is prompty detected by the librarians. Genda prepares to move, and is objected to by Hiraga, who is double-rejected by Genda.
Iku is worrying if the librarians got her hint when she sees Dojo's hand in the window, and after measuring three seconds she dives for cover with Inamine while the Kanto troops storm the building. All the Bakushuukai are quickly apprehended, with no casualties. In the aftermath, Dojo apologizes to Iku. Well, she gets fresh with him, so they both end up arguing, much to Komaki's amusement.
The next day, Iku rejects Tezuka, and is slightly miffed at how lightly the latter takes it. As she begins yelling in the cafe, he says that she's definitely an interesting friend to have.
That night, Iku is pondering whether or not to write her parents a letter when Ayase says that there's no need. She shows Iku the letter sent by her parents, saying that they're coming to visit. Uh oh.
Thoughts:
Ah… I really liked this episode. Iku's clandestine method of conveying her location undoubtedly earned her points with the others. (Even if Commander Inamine's leg sort of rendered it pointless.)
Call me lame, but I really felt the joy when Iku was commented by Dojo. I was elated. ^^
Too bad it doesn't seem like Tezuka had any real feelings for Iku. orz Parent visit next week, uh ohes.
