Oooo….scary….

The episode opens morbidly with the execution of a prisoner by hanging, then followed by the funeral of Aoki's father. Aoki regrets not being able to tell his father that he works for Section Nine and confesses to his mother and sister.

Back at work, Maki asks Aoki to take part in a special investigation to look at the brain of the convict who was executed at the beginning of the episode. The man, Tsuyugushi Kouichi, was convicted for murdering his entire family 3 years ago. He also admitted to killing his eldest daughter Kinuko and disposing her body in a nearby bay. However, her body was never found.

After a preliminary look at Tsuyuguchi's brain via the M.R.I., it was quickly discovered that Kinuko was the real murderer and Tsuyuguchi confessed to the crime in order to protect his daughter. Due to a near accident, a police officer detained her and confirmed her identity. Even though Aoki knows she's the real killer, Maki reminds him that there's not much they could do to her as the case is closed and Tsuyuguchi has already died.

Aoki looks through Tsuyuguchi's brain once more to see if he can find out what Kinuko's motive was to murder her family. One image showed an incident where Tsuyuguchi invaded Kinuko's privacy when she and her boyfriend were making love. The episode ends with Kinuko walking alongside a riverbank and then seeing a man walking his dog. She calls out to him (Hirai-kun) and he appears to recognize who she is…..

Impressions:
Very interesting case this time with a well-conceived murder mystery. It's a two-parter so we won't really get definitive answers until the next episode. Obviously, the main question is what exactly was Kinuko's motive? Could it have been just that one incident where her father invaded her privacy? If that was the case why did she kill the rest of the family but not him? Something still doesn't seem to add up. Also, the ending scene was particularly intriguing as well. We don't really know who Hirai-kun is exactly. He could've been the boyfriend that we saw in the M.R.I. image, but that's just speculation. Anyway, I'm expecting a couple more twists and turns with this case. I'm thinking that there are some major details that have yet to be revealed. So definitely looking forward to seeing how things play out in the next ep.

I just marathoned this to catch up.
Anyways, if Kinuko wasn’t such a bitch, she would be a great yandere.
Absolutely looked scrumptious covered in blood with that knife.

This episode is very interesting indeed like you said. It doesn’t really matter if it’s solved or not. The outcome of it is already done but it get you thinking as to why Kinuko did that to her family. It seems the father might’ve did something to her I bet since he mentions having regret in the letter before he died. As for Aoki’s father dying, we saw it coming, but to just burn his diaries like that, I would atleast looked at them. I’m really want to know how this all plays out in the end. If afterwards, will Aoki get justice on Kinuko? Guess we’ll have to see in the next one…
