It's the future! 2025 and virtual reality is a reality, people often go to '2.0' which refers to the net. Real life is commonly referred to as '1.0', and people who waste their lives away on the streets like bums on 2.0 are referred to as '1.5'. Teruki, Maeno's son, asks a net idol (which is like an A.I. personality on 2.0) named Ruon if she'd like to meet in 1.0. Little does he know he'll meet her that very night after logging off, along with witnessing her get shot by suited men, and having to run for his life.
He runs into Tamotsu Yanagihara, who immediately refers the situation to Rin. Seizing on the situation, Rin takes Teruki out for a day of fun, including batting, shopping, and high-class dining. Her plan is to lure out whoever is after Teruki, and it somewhat works. The assassin (who we all thought was dead two times over… ) appears, identifying Teruki immediately as 'Stigma'. Rin and the assassin fight, and after a lot of shooting and blowing stuff up and hitting people with construction beams, Teruki like his father has the unfortunate luck to witness Rin's immortality.
Anyways we find out more about these 'time spores' and 'Yggdrasil'. Apparently Yggdrasil's spores are everywhere, but it's only 1 in a million to 10 million chance that a spore will be a special 'time spore', granting women immortality and turning men into 'angels'. More data mining by Mimi reveals that Ruon is the 5 years' dead daughter of a brilliant scientist named Kamiyama Katsuyuki. Rin takes Teruki back to her apartment while Mimi goes to find the information broker. Rin has been looking out for Teruki without the latter knowing it. Was half expecting ronery Teruki to make a move on Rin. The moves certainly are put on with Mimi and the information broker, though, and do I sense developing relationship?
Ruon suddenly contacts Teruki on his cell, so Rin and Mimi hook him up to go on 2.0, where he meets Ruon. However, they come under attack shortly, despite Mimi's best efforts at counter-hacking. Erm, and then… I don't know what happens. There're two Ruons, one absorbs the other, but right before the new Ruon drags Teruki in Mimi pulls him out. No time to react, though, the special forces suddenly break in through the window, trashing the office. Rin, Mimi, and Teruki are pursued and ultimately caught by the national army. Teruki is taken away while Rin and Mimi are eliminated.
As usual, Rin and Mimi wouldn't die even if they were killed, and are now trying to track down Teruki. Tamo-chan promises his help, but just as he tells Rin the plane that is shuttling Teruki away he's shot by an army sniper. Rin surreptitiously boards the plane, finding Kamiyama shot and delirious. She proceeds to find Ruon holding Teruki captive. Okay, massive spoiler time.
[LOLSPOILER] Kamiyama was a bit of a mad researcher, he killed Ruon by 'uploading' her consciousness onto 2.0. Her real body died as a consequence, and he made her a cyborg one. Ruon falls in love with Teruki who had asked to meet her in 1.0, something noone's ever asked before. She passes on 'stigma' which is the technology for uploading consciousnesses to the net by kissing Teruki, and is shortly after eliminated. Kamiyama wants it back, enlisting Apos' help. It turns out that it isn't Apos sending the National Army after Rin and crew, though, it's Ruon herself. She manipulates the military using the internet to retrieve Teruki, and finally wants to use stigma to upload him to the net where they can live happily ever after. She's highly jealous of Rin. [/LOLSPOILER]
Rin's liek, no wai, shoots Ruon, freeing Teruki and giving him a parachute. She then proceeds to battle Ruon as Teruki escapes, they both tumble out of the plane and into the jet engines. A fine bloody mist ensues. Oh my. The end shows Teruki alive, Mimi moving out with Genta, and Rin's status unknown.
Thoughts:
GENTA THE DOG IS SHOT. But what. Genta is alive. Time spores work for animals too? lols.
As usual, a lot of the story went straight over my head. I don't even know why I watch this still, lot of violence and then hurr lesbian sex. Oh right, because I started blogging it and I want to finish blogging it. I'm such a workaholic, aren't I?
Umm. So I assume the men who initially shot Ruon's first cybernetic body were under the employ of Kamiyama, or something? All the ensuing action by the national army was Ruon's doing.
Anyway, the big question is: Can time-spore immortals survive being ground into a bloody mist by a jet engine?
(Oh did I mention we get to catch a glimpse of who Rin always talks on the phone to? Seems to be the same person as in the ED… hmm.)
