This is Volume 1’s Cover…
There we go. Oh god kill me now. After like 2 years of hearing and reading about it, I just started reading Welcome to the NHK’s manga yesterday, and heck I’m thrilled! This is what I’ve been craving for! Angst. Comedy. Potential Love-Love Relationship (I haven’t gone up to chapter 2 yet so I still have no idea). Action (That scene with the religious solicitor was hell-intense!). And a heck lot of emo facial-distortions.
For the sake of those who still haven’t started reading the manga or at least watch the series (Go read now! Or watch the series! I don’t care if you don’t like the concept or how it looks, just pick it up! It’s “F*CK you, pick it up!”), I will type down the synopsis of this as I have read, and I’m not going to rely on Wikipedia or whatever.
Here we go. Synopsis!
But before that, some notes about the manga. This one, I’m gonna go look at Wiki.
Welcome to the NHK! or ‘NHK ni Youkusho!’ in jap came from a novel by Tatsuhiko Takimoto (who, I think will have another novel of his adapted into manga entitled ‘Negative Happy chainsaw Edge), which was published by Kadokawa Shouten. It was later serialized into manga, of course the same writer, Takimoto, with art by Kendi Oiwa. The manga summed up to 40 chapters, bound into 8 volumes.
Ok so much with the trivia, let’s get on with the f–kin’ synopsis.
Ok, seriously, here we go. Synopsis!
The main man would be Tatsuhiro Satou, a hikikomori who haven’t interacted with another human for as long as 4 years (I think). He believes that his being hikikomori was caused by NHK’s (yup, that channel) conspiracy master plan of turning everyone into a hikikomori. He meets this girl, Misaki Nakahara, who told him she can help him lose his hikikomori-ness.
Warning though: This manga may be too intense for new readers, and as you know, the deepest depths of otaku-ness can be full of traps, and stuff you might like or would not like to see.
Like this particular chapter in volume one entitled: “Welcome to the Lolita”.
This manga is very delicious, BUT you those with weak constitutions, and who aren’t prepared to see whatever could be in this, be prepared first.
For the sake of some people, hikikomori means a person who isolates himself/herself from society or other people, not going outside the house at the very least. Oh, you know, them lurkers…
That’s it for now, I know it’s kinda short, but hell give me some air here. Nah, just kidding. Anyhow, I just might post something about hikikomoris and NEETs, or whatever.

I’ve been following the manga myself lately. I like it so far too (I’m on Vol. 5), and get ready for some truly dark cynical humor and for pretty much everyone to show some pretty terrible faults. After you’re done, go watch the anime too–it’s actually a bit more serious and earnest but still works very well on its own terms. (It’s one of my favorite anime series.)

Ah, this is a awesome piece of work. I’m currently on vol. 3 and loving it. It gets slightly more serious when he sinks deeper into hikki-related stuff, but aside from that it’s all awesome.

I’m in the midst of watching this series right now, at first I didn’t know what to expect considering it seemed like something that I normally wouldn’t enjoy, but so far I’ve been very surprised with how much I’m actually enjoying it.
I heard the manga is about ten times crazier than the anime, so I’m sure you’re in for an interesting read :)

They’re not into censorship in the manga so it’s kinda awkward and troublesome in some instances when I’m reading the manga.
