Wil (Will?), the main character, is asked by his teacher to help tutor a detention class. Provided for the students as well as us viewers, Wil explains the setting of the anime. The continent is round, divided down the middle by the Lutoni River and Central Mountains. Their country, the Roxcheanuk Confederation (or Roxche for short), is on the east. The United Kingdom of Bezel Iltoa (or Sou Beil) is on the west.
Both countries have been warring for over 130 years, but are currently in an armistice. Wil says that the cause of the war was that both countries insisted they were the origin of mankind.
A loud noise interrupts Wil's lecture, as a plane flies overhead and lands in the field behind him. Out comes Allison, who greets Wil.
Getting some alone time, Allison tells Wil of how she joined the Air Force. Well, not really, since they're been collaborating with letters. Wil demonstrates his extraordinary memory, when asked to recall some news Allison sent him by letter, he is able to name which letter and what line. Allison also says she was wooed by an officer of Sou Beil, but rejected him. Wil says that she should have at least kept contact with the officer, though Allison is not happy with his answer.
Wil and Allison are joyriding on his motorbike later, and they bump into an old man. According to Wil, the old man is notorious for telling outlandish stories, earning him the nickname 'lying old fart'. LOF asks Wil for a ride back to his home, and Wil (with a little pressure from Allison) agrees. Reaching LOF's home, they meet his housekeeper (wife?) Norma, who is on the way out to shop. Wil and Allison sit down to have tea with LOF.
Using the quality of the tea as a cue, LOF says that he used to work as a gardener for a royal family, which is why he is able to have such good tea. Allison immediately shuts him down, to Wil's dismay.
However, moving along, LOF begins some truth telling. (We'll assume it's truth telling, if you've seen the episode you'll know why.) He says that he knows the location of some treasure, so valuable that it could end the war between Roxche and Sou Beil. LOF discovered the treasure while doing the poison gas operation with Lieutenant Colonel McMillan, which helped save Roxche. Wil says that LOF could not have participated, since all squad members died except for McMillan. LOF says that McMillan never really existed. Allison, excited by LOF's story, offers to take him to the treasure, despite it being in Sou Beil territory. At that moment, however, a burly man in a suit shows up and requests that LOF come to town hall for 'tax issues'. The burly man asks if Wil and Allison are relatives, but LOF says no and goes with him.
After they drive away, Allison's indignance is riled more by Wil's observation that the burly man was suspicious. Wil says that if the man had come from the town, he would have obviously known that Wil and Allison were not LOF's relatives. It is not long before Allison and Wil are giving chase in Wil's motorbike, confirming their suspicions - the car is heading in the opposite direction of the town. Furthermore, the car's window opens and a gun is pointed at Wil and Allison. Wil pushes Allison as the gun fires, causing the motorbike to go off-balance, throwing them both to the ground and wrecking his bike in the process. Thankfully, neither are hurt.
Tracking the car to an enclosed compound, Allison goads Wil into infiltrating it with her. They see a plane take off from the compound, and after finding a second plane, Allison decides to pursue. (Poor Wil.)
As they take to the air, Allison asks Wil how he likes flying, who says he's scared and uncomfortable but that it also feels better than he imagined.
Thoughts:
The character stereotypes are pretty basic in Allison to Lillia, Wil is relaxed and docile, while Allison is brash and straightforward. Also, Allison obviously harbors some deeper affection for Wil, though the latter is unaware. Despite the abrupt start of their adventure, I must say I'm looking forward to where it takes them. Well, abrupt is better than nonsensical. *cough*Hatenkou Yugi*cough*
I was surprised at Wil's memory, it was one of those things that seemed a little bit out of place, but I'm sure it'll become some plot-essential device later on. Not very fond of Wil's seiyuu right now, but I'll get used to it.
Lastly, I'm absolutely adoring the animation. Some have chafed at it, but it seems more reminiscent of older animes than anything, which is really nice.
Will fan subbing ever die?

This one just takes you back to the original nice styling of an anime storyline. I’m gonna enjoy this one myself.

Never trust a guy who says he’s from the IRS, even if he really is one.
