Why dose

After breakfast, Kotoko and Naoki head off to school together. The situation is just a bit awkward, since she'd confessed to and been rejected by him. At the subway station, Naoki tells Kotoko not to socialize with him at school, to keep their living together a secret.

Naoki's coldheartedness is highlighted at one of the subway stops, when Kotoko is shoved outside by a horde of people getting off. She tries to rush back in, and though he could have held the door for her, he did not.
Arriving at school practically late, Kotoko rants at Naoki, only to be told that he hates 'absent-minded girls'. (Even though it was his fault? D:) Fueled by Naoki's icy demeanor, Kotoko announces to her friends that she will compete with Naoki by getting top 50 on finals.
That night, Naoki's mother shows Kotoko a rare treat - pictures of Naoki when he was little. Naoki's mother wanted a girl so much that she had nothing but girl's clothes with he was born, and thus dressed him up in them for a good length of his infancy.

Ah ha. Ha. Ha hah ha ha ha. xD

During school, Naoki calls out Kotoko because his mother switched their lunches. Kotoko takes this opportunity to use the ace up her sleeve - pictures of little Naoki courtesy of his mother. She blackmails him into tutoring her.

True to his word, Naoki tutors Kotoko, despite her apparent helplessness. After a few days Kotoko shows promise. Naoki falls asleep during one of their sessions, and Kotoko quickly follows suit. A sneaking paparazzi Naoki's mother takes pictures of them.
The day of the exams, Naoki's mother hands Kotoko an envelope, telling her to not open it until after the exams, it's a good luck charm. On the way, Naoki is showing much more gentlemanly behavior, and holds the door for Kotoko.
Kotoko breezes through the exams, as she exclaims that the answers are exactly like what Naoki told her.

If you ask me though, that's kind of cheating.

Later, the results are posted. Irie Naoki is, of course, first. Both Naoki and Kotoko have come to see the scores, even though Naoki never checks the scores. Kotoko has not yet looked for her name, so when he tells her she's rank 50, she's overjoyed. It's all business with Naoki, though, and he immediately asks for the embarrassing picture back. Kotoko obliges.

Back in Class F, Kotoko unpacks her bag when the envelope she received earlier falls out. She opens it with her friends watching, and it's none other than the picture Naoki's mother snuck when Kotoko and Naoki were sleeping together. Kotoko is forced to explain her entire situation to her friends, but makes them promise to keep it a secret.

As if. The next day Naoki storms into Class F, and drags Kotoko with him. He shows her a poster, made to tease Naoki and Kotoko living together. Naoki takes the poster, crumples it and throws it to the ground. He tells her to not mess with his life anymore, and storms off. A shattered Kotoko realizes just how bittersweet her love is.

Thoughts:
Ha, nice to see Naoki sweat some for a change. >:) Although, with the poster and Naoki angrier than before, things aren't looking good for Kotoko. And I'll bet that sneaky paparazzi of a mother is going to cause even more trouble in the future. xD
Naoki's huge chin didn't dawn on me until just recently, but compared with the manga… it's definitely bearable.
