Rakuen’s Back With a Rant! Stupid Dubbing is Stupid. Some Code Geass Dubbing Rant.
This is kinda like my emo facial distortion after trying to watch an episode.
P.S. Rakuen is not anguished by Geass’ rubbish, nor their necromancies, but by the dubbing these crazy filipinos dubbers (heck, I won’t even call them “seiyuus” nor “voice actors”) did. I’m not saying this against filipinos, but to them dubbers who murdered Geass season 1 (they know who they are; screw them even if they’re not reading this), which I found better than R2.
I dare rollchan, or any other FLIP anime blogger who cares to watch a single episode and not go “F*CK!” while watching.
Anyway, season 1 of Code Geass: Lelouch of Rebellion is currently airing in my country in a daily basis from Mondays to Saturdays.
Now, for the steaming:
I’ll get straight to the point– the STUPID dubbing is STUPID.
1. They made Lelouch sound like a bad guy when he laughs– ok, maybe he does sound like a villain when he laughs– but the dubber does it in an irritating and inelegant manner.
2. Ougi sounds like a friggin’ pirate. He’s not supposed to be like that. Well whatever, he’s all passive anyway. Wait– NO!!! There’s no passive pirate!
3. Kallen sounds like a boy undergoing puberty. It’s irritating, because it’s disturbing to hear Melonpan-chan sounding like a boy. In Japanese, those battle cries of her actually entice me– *covers mouth*. It’s common truth among men anyway.
4. I don’t care about Tamaki and Shirley and Rivalz.
This is Rakuen’s take on the whole “Dubbing-in-another-language” thing: “Let the dubbers watch the original thing with subtitles (in case they don’t speak Japanese), then the dubber director should choose the proper dubber for the appropriate role, and please hire a decent dubbing director or else I’ll shove a mic up your *sses.” That goes to some stations out there. Yes, you m*therf*ckers.
This greatly affects viewership, especially those who have already watched the original “seiyuu-ed” version
, since they will want to watch the whole thing again, and are whores when it comes to dubbing (like yours trully). And it’s aggravating hearing vocals you’re not supposed to hear; heck, C.C. didn’t sound moe in episode 1 (T_T). I know what some might be thinking: “Go buy the DVD.” That’s may be true, too.
P.S. Again. This post is open for your other rants about sh*tty dubbing in the comments section, we want no trouble, we want interaction. Or at least, I want interaction, because I’m on the verge of being a hikki.
P.S. Again, AGAIN! Rakuen has finally updated his repulsive profile in the Team Page. Since Nagato-sama made him a God of this blog for some time to update his sh*t.

OMG I’m watching it now and I totally agree with everything you just said. I can’t stop laughing on how sh*tty it is XD… I found it… awkward to hear them in Tagalog XD…

I found the script in english more likely good but yeah but I’m awkward just hearing the all the VA meh aweful.

Thankfully the English dub isn’t too bad. I wouldn’t say it’s my idea of a perfect dub but, it isn’t bad. I think I’m just too much of a fan of Lelouch’s original voice though. So cool~ I haven’t heard it dubbed in any other language though so, can’t comment on them.

heck, last monday, while watching Shana on TV5, there was a promotion for Code Geass and they pronounce it like “Code Jeez”. OMFL~~~ heck, I bet I wouldn’t want to watch this. Save for Shana, which is now I think in Season 2.
Haven’t watched the first episode yet, but, I’d opt finishing to watch the NA dub. Lelouch is voiced by my favorite, Johnny Yong Bosch (he’s also the VA for Nero in DMC4 and Mike Kamishiro in Please Twins which I also happen to have a DVD Box Collection of the series!) while Suzaku is voiced by Yuri Lowenthal who voiced Yuri Shibuya from Kyou Kara Maoh. Yeah~
Come later tonight, if I have a chance to watch, I’ll give a try and give my verdict. hehehehe.

@tFlops & Larein: I agree, the English dubbing ain’t half bad. Half-assed maybe, but still good. And I still go with the Jap dubbing with Lelouch. Make that C.C. as well.
@rollchan: Yah, you better watch it so you can have 10 rages a second just like me. And it’s more like “CODE GEEZ– Why am I watching this?”. And about DMC4, Nero’s English voice really keeps his stud.

right now, I’m watching Code Geis and Rakuen was right, Ohgi sounds like a pirate! arrrr! :D
Lelouch’ voice is ok as well as Suzaku, as for Nanalee.. well… puede na… Mapagtatiyagaan naman. hehe.
oh yeah, Pudding Earl’s Flip dub voice is ok. Also gayish in act. :)

hmm… was also wondering, no echoish voice when Lelouch wears the mask as Zero? wow…
oh yeah, can’t get nuff of Ohgi’s pirate voice. its like, “Let’s be pirates!”
Kallen’s voice is ok as well as Orange and Viletta. still want to hear C.C. voice. whew… :D

ok nuff with the Flip dub of Code Jeez.
I’ll stick with NA dub. But still, there’s nothing good as the original JapAudio version. :D

@rollchan: I think you should. Stick with the Jap dubbing. Not to turn you to Jap though. I’m not watching it anymore. I’ll just trust my DVDs.

Someday when I’m rich and I retire I will work as a dubber for free. I don’t mind having very minor roles. But my objective here is to infiltrate the production team with like-minded otaku. Because I’m not here to diss the professional dubbers who are actors in their own right. it’s just that I don’t believe that they have an affinity or a clear understanding of the source material.
I don’t believe that it’s enough to watch R1 and R2 to prepare for the role. I think it would be beneficial for everyone involved in the project to MURK LOAR in the internets to really get what the whole deal is.

@ghostlightning: You said it right, they better understand that they are dubbing the ‘trainwreck’ that is Geass. Well, most of R2 for that matter. But yeah, they better roam around the net too. I, for one, wasn’t this inclined into anime (I meant more active) until I entered the anime blogosphere.

Watched this yesterday (not sure but there seemed to be a weekend marathon?! or… two episodes per day, whatever), and I ended up crying… tears from too much laughter because of how gawdawful it was x___X It’s good for nothing else but lulz

@usagijen: Yup, there’s like a marathon on Geass every Sunday, from 4:00pm to 6:00. But well, we’ll have to forgive them. I hope they straighten things out.
